Europe Without Frontiers
April 30 - May 9, 2009
In order to commemorate Europe Week, which ends with the celebration of the Europe Day on May 9 on Cvjetni Trg and Bundek, the Delegation of the European Commission to the Republic of Croatian has opened an exhibition “Europe Withouth Frontiers” at the premises of the Croatian Association of Artists in Zagreb.
Through photographs and posters, the exhibition shows the evolution of the EU enlargement, starting from 1951 and the establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community to today´s EU consisting of 27 Member States. Based on the idea of creating a space of safety and peace for all Europeans, and with wounds still fresh from the Second World War, the European Union evolved slowly, and in several stages. The first big step was the Treaties of Rome in 1957, which are considered to be the foundations of the European Community. The exhibition includes visual testaments of this and all future enlargements, such as, for example, the creation of the Union in Maastricht in 1992, introduction of the euro and accession of 10 new Member States from Eastern Europe.
The exhibition “Europe Without Frointiers” is open to the public until May 9.
