The seventh edition<\/strong> of this nationally important event, <\/strong>the Biennial of Painting and the guest exhibition of Lithuanian artists<\/strong> will open its doors at the Home of Croatian Association of Fine Artists, the renowned Me\u0161trovi\u0107 Pavilion <\/strong>at 19:00 on 25 October 2023<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Biennial of Painting <\/strong>presents <\/strong>a broad cross-section of generations actively shaping the Croatian painting scene, with the aim of documenting the current biennial production. Traditionally, the Biennial of Painting has also hosted an exhibition of foreign artists, which, following the concept of a guest curator, presents a cross-section of the painting scene of a European city (2011\/Berlin, 2013\/Vienna, 2015\/Gdansk, 2017\/Prague, 2019\/Leipzig, 2021\/Dublin).\u00a0This year’s Biennial juxtaposes the Croatian painting scene with the Lithuanian painting scene through the exhibition titled<\/em> Floating Identity: Between a Recognizable Image and Abstraction,<\/strong><\/em> curated by Remigijus Venckus.<\/p>\n

Recognizing the need for broader representation and advocacy of artistic endeavours within the medium of painting, this year\u2019s Biennial extends beyond the Me\u0161trovi\u0107 Pavilion, with a portion of the program taking place at <\/strong>three additional venues<\/strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>At the <\/strong>Vranyczany Palace<\/strong> on Berislavi\u0107eva Street (home to the Croatian History Museum), in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, the <\/strong>exhibition \u2018ALuZija\u2019 <\/strong>will be presented, featuring a selection of paintings of the final-year students and alumni of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb.<\/strong> At the <\/strong>Canvas Gallery<\/strong>, the exhibition titled <\/strong>Flower Market \/ Tr\u017enica cvije\u0107a<\/em><\/strong> will be on display, <\/strong>a solo exhibition by Matko Veki\u0107<\/strong>, the Grand Prix winner of the 6th Painting Biennial. <\/strong>Meanwhile, the inclusive art gallery, Art&CeRZe<\/strong>, will present an exhibition featuring professional artists and users from the Zagreb Rehabilitation Centre.<\/strong><\/p>\n

More than<\/strong> 100 artists<\/strong> will be showcased within the main selection and additional exhibition programs.<\/p>\n

Visitors, besides enjoying the exhibitions, can participate in numerous educational, inclusive and discursive activities<\/strong>. Highlights include guided tours of <\/strong>murals in public spaces <\/strong>(VMD Park kne\u017eeva, Zagreb University Hospital Centre \u2014 Rebro), guided <\/strong>tours for adults<\/strong>, guided <\/strong>tours for children<\/strong> and young people<\/strong> accompanied by <\/strong>educational booklets, art workshops<\/strong> for all ages, <\/strong>artists meet and greet<\/strong> in their studios, and <\/strong>inclusive art<\/strong> workshops.<\/p>\n

In January 2024, prizes <\/strong>funded by private donors will be granted for the most outstanding achievements<\/strong> as part of the Biennial. The official competition<\/strong> will award a Grand Prix<\/strong> worth EUR<\/strong> 4,500.00 <\/strong>gross, and a prize for a young artist valued at EUR<\/strong> 3,000.00 <\/strong>gross. Thanks to an anonymous philanthropist, an out-of-competition award, the Kontrapunkt Award Vladimir Dodig Trokut_Iva Vranekovi\u0107, Artists to Artist,<\/strong> will also be awarded in the amount of <\/strong>EUR 2,222.00<\/strong> net.<\/strong><\/p>\n
