The upcoming resident within the European project AFAR is artist Megan Dominescu (RO) \u2013<\/strong> a visual artist based in Bucharest, Romania with a background in painting and origins in Washington, D.C. She uses various mediums in her work but has focused mainly on textiles in recent years. Her works range from large scale hand-made tapestries to embroidered interventions to textile sculptures. Megan also has started an animal (and sometimes human) clothing brand, GoodBoySecurity. Megan is a founding member at Moxa20 Studio\/Gallery.<\/p>\n

As part of the residency, Megan will familiarize herself with the local art scene through visits to studios and exhibitions and will create a new artistic work related to the main themes of the project: ecology, sustainability, heritage, and textile arts. This work will be exhibited at the final exhibitions in Zagreb, Vienna, and Bucharest. In addition to the artistic work, she will also give a lecture at the<\/strong> Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, June 3, at 7 pm,<\/strong> followed by a discussion with <\/strong>Sven Jozi\u0107 (AFAR Talk), as part of the course “Introduction to Art Theory”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Artists for Artists Residency Network<\/em><\/strong>, a two-year project (2023-2024),\u00a0aims to improve the mobility of contemporary visual artists and curators, while creating greater opportunities for women in the arts.<\/strong>\u00a0The project takes place in four European partner countries \u2013 Romania, Germany, Croatia and Austria. The project focuses on the development of new international exchanges and transcultural dialogue and provides a number of new opportunities for art practitioners of all ages, in different artistic media, with a special emphasis on women in art and gender equality. The result of the project will be increased awareness of the importance of cultural mobility at local legislative levels, but also in the general public, especially in the current (post)crisis European context, strengthening EU affiliation and connection with contemporary visual art.<\/em><\/p>\n

The project includes:\u00a012 artist residencies<\/strong>\u00a0in Zagreb (HR), Mulhouse (FR), Bucharest (RO) and in S\u0103cel, Maramure\u0219 (RO),\u00a04 curatorial residencies<\/strong>\u00a0in Zagreb and Bucharest,\u00a012 conferences<\/strong>\u00a0in Zagreb, Bucharest and Vienna and\u00a01 traveling international exhibition<\/strong>, which will first be shown to the public in Zagreb (HR), and then in Vienna (AT) and Bucharest (RO).<\/em><\/p>\n
