This innovative artist-in-residence initiative connects a local and an international artist, acknowledging the need to redefine and co-create a new cultural identity for the neighborhood surrounding <strong data-start=\"424\" data-end=\"441\">Karas Gallery<\/strong> \u2013 HDLU&#8217;s long-standing exhibition space for contemporary art, which has operated from Kralja Zvonimira 58 since 2018, following many years at Pra\u0161ka 4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"595\" data-end=\"1110\">In 2024, the program brought together <strong data-start=\"633\" data-end=\"653\">Luana Loji\u0107 (HR)<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"658\" data-end=\"676\">Karl Iaro (DE)<\/strong>, who, during a three-week residency in Zagreb, explored the broader context of Karas Gallery with a focus on the nearby <strong data-start=\"797\" data-end=\"815\">Kvatri\u0107 market<\/strong> and the multifunctional building above it. There, on the second floor, they established an experimental platform called <strong data-start=\"936\" data-end=\"959\">Transparency Agency<\/strong>, through which they examined the potential of public space, the coexistence of diverse building users, and the role of art in shaping a shared future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1112\" data-end=\"1489\">Through a series of workshops, guided tours, performances, and exhibitions \u2013 including participation in the <strong data-start=\"1220\" data-end=\"1242\">Reli po galerijama<\/strong> gallery crawl \u2013 the project became a convergence point for art, urbanism, community, and speculative spatial thinking. Karas Gallery served as both the starting point and an expanded platform for reflection and documentation of neighborhood life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1491\" data-end=\"1649\">For <strong data-start=\"1495\" data-end=\"1515\">KARAS+KVART 2025<\/strong>, the program will feature <strong data-start=\"1542\" data-end=\"1567\">Petar Vranjkovi\u0107 (HR)<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1572\" data-end=\"1596\">Daniel Merkulov (UA)<\/strong>, the latter selected via an international open call.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1651\" data-end=\"2110\">This year, the program takes a step further, spotlighting <strong data-start=\"1709\" data-end=\"1729\">Petar Vranjkovi\u0107<\/strong>, a transmedia artist exploring narratives of personal and collective memory, and <strong data-start=\"1811\" data-end=\"1830\">Daniel Merkulov<\/strong>, a music producer and multi-instrumentalist developing a unique fusion of contemporary music and artistic expression. The two will spend two weeks investigating the gallery&#8217;s neighborhood, resulting in a new public artwork or intervention, open to the public in <strong data-start=\"2093\" data-end=\"2109\">October 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1651\" data-end=\"2110\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.hdlu.hr\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Naslovna_KarasKvart.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2117\" data-end=\"2850\"><strong data-start=\"2117\" data-end=\"2137\">Petar Vranjkovi\u0107<\/strong> (b. 1997) is a transmedia artist and researcher whose work incorporates archival materials, photography, video, print, and design. He holds a master\u2019s degree in Animation and New Media from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. His work focuses on memory-making and narrative building through artistic means, often centering on the intimate history of individuals as a way of interpreting a community\u2019s heritage, traditions, and cultural identity. His solo exhibitions include shows at Kamba, Zagreb (2024); the Vjenceslav Richter and Nada Kare\u0161 Richter Collection, Zagreb (2023); and Miroslav Kraljevi\u0107 Gallery, Zagreb (2022). His work has been featured at the 42nd Split Salon and the 36th Youth Salon in Zagreb.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2852\" data-end=\"3528\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/danielmerkulov\/\">Daniel Merkulov<\/a> <\/strong>(b. 1989) is an experienced multi-instrumentalist and music producer with extensive experience in composing, producing, and arranging music for films, commercials, and international music platforms. He is the founder of the independent label <strong data-start=\"3114\" data-end=\"3138\">Digital Downshifting<\/strong>, through which he has released multiple albums, and is active as a DJ and producer in various projects. He runs his own music studio where he collaborates with local musicians to develop a distinctive sound blending electronic music with classical elements.
