Each of the three artworks has been installed in all three partner countries, while the Croatian mural has additionally been realized at <strong>two locations in Croatia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Healing Nature<\/strong> project, authored by <strong>Dr. art. Melinda \u0160ef\u010di\u0107<\/strong> and <strong>Dr. phil. Lea Vidakovi\u0107<\/strong>, is based on a holistic approach to health, recognizing art and culture as important factors in mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. At the European level, the project encourages interdisciplinary collaboration between artists, animators, researchers, and healthcare institutions, with a strong emphasis on inclusivity, social engagement, and the application of contemporary technologies in cultural and healthcare contexts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201eThe Forest of Small Wonders\u201c \u2013 <\/strong><strong>the Croatian mural<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The mural <strong>\u201cThe Forest of Small Wonders\u201d<\/strong>, by Melinda \u0160ef\u010di\u0107, was created in collaboration with children from the House of St. Francis \u2013 Caritas of the Archdiocese of Zagreb in Vugrovec, SOS Children\u2019s Village Lekenik, Krijesnice Kindergarten, and Ivan Gunduli\u0107 Primary School. Through art workshops, children produced drawings of animals, plants, and fantastical creatures, which were integrated into the mural\u2019s rich, multilayered forest composition.<\/p>\n<p>In Croatia, this mural has been installed at <strong>two locations<\/strong>: at the Clinic for Tumors \u2013 Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology with Day Hospital \u201cMladen \u0106epuli\u0107,\u201d and additionally at the Children\u2019s Hospital in Klai\u0107eva Street. The same mural has also been installed in hospital spaces in Portugal and Bulgaria, ensuring a strong visual and conceptual connection between the partner countries.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-39892\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hdlu.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/DSC_2713-2-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1711\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cSpring Breeze\u201d \u2013 mural by the Portuguese partners<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The mural <strong>\u201cSpring Breeze\u201d<\/strong>, by Natalie Wolf and the team from Lus\u00f3fona University, is inspired by a spring meadow and watercolor depictions of plants and landscapes. Its gentle color palette and layered structure create a calming visual atmosphere in hospital waiting areas. This mural has been installed in hospitals in <strong>Portugal, Croatia, and Bulgaria<\/strong>, emphasizing the project\u2019s shared European character.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-39893\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hdlu.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Slika-zaslona-2026-01-26-u-10.59.03.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"2976\" height=\"1552\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe Lilies and the White Pond\u201d \u2013 mural by the Bulgarian partners<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The mural <strong>\u201cThe Lilies and the White Pond\u201d<\/strong>, by Lidia Cvetkova and Evgenia Stoitseva, is inspired by fairy tales and the symbolism of peace, hope, and timelessness. Pastel tones and a subtle interplay of light and white contribute to a tranquil atmosphere within hospital spaces. Like the other two works, this mural has been realized in <strong>all three partner countries \u2013 Bulgaria, Croatia, and Portugal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-39894\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hdlu.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/DSCF5560-2-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1920\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Art, technology, and well-being<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the next phase of the project, all murals will gain a digital dimension through <strong>augmented reality (AR)<\/strong>, allowing selected elements of the murals to come to life through animation. This offers children an interactive, calming, and engaging experience that helps reduce stress and fear during their hospital stay.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>The project is led by the <strong>Croatian Association of Fine Artists (HDLU)<\/strong> and is implemented in partnership with <strong>Universidade Lus\u00f3fona \/ COFAC (Portugal)<\/strong> and <strong>New Bulgarian University (Bulgaria)<\/strong>, with co-funding from the <strong>European Union<\/strong>. The project builds on previously successful pilot projects by the authors carried out at University Hospital Centre Zagreb and confirms a long-term commitment to connecting art, health, and social responsibility.
